 Greens introduction

Michael Green and Ellen Murphy

Luke Greene in County Clare

Luke Greene and Ann Healy
Luke Greene, farmer, (1798-1885) married Ann Healy in 1825 in Ennistimon, in County Clare, witnessed by a Patrick Greene, and had at least three children - Michael, Ann and Thomas - all of whom went to Australia.

An 1826 Applotment book, list a Luke, William and Pat Green in Ballycotton. In 1855, Luke and Patrick are listed in Ballycotteen North.

Luke died in Ballycotton at the age of 87. A William Greene was present at his death.

According to a Mary Greene, living in Ballycotton North, Luke had a brother William, and a sister Mary, who married Laurence O Connor.

Luke's children
Luke's children, Michael (aged 21) and Ann (aged 20) arrived in Adelaide in 1854. Thomas, it seems, and William (my great grandfather, possibly a cousin of the others), came later, between 1861 and 1866.

Michael (1833-1904) probably moved from Adelaide directly to Victoria, to Beaufort, in central Victoria, to work as a goldminer, where he married and raised a family.

Ann (1834-1916) stayed in Adelaide and at the age of 28 married Martin OLoughlin around 1862 (#6286) (no children). She moved to Victoria in 1874 (aged 40 - probably after the death of her husband), and died in Ballarat aged 82 (#4250).

Thomas, a labourer, (1833?-1910) moved to Victoria in 1866 (single, no children) and died in Northcote, aged 77 (#13979).
